Are You Interested in Ham Radio?

Basically amateur radio (also called ham radio) is the use of designated radio frequencies for the purposes of private recreation, non-commercial exchange of messages, wireless experimentation, self-training and emergency communications.

Additional information is available by clicking Wikipedia’s website as well as the ARRL (American Radio Relay League) website.

Get Started with a Technician License

To earn the Technician license requires passing one examination totaling 35 questions randomly selected from a pool of 428 questions. The questions pertain to radio theory, regulations and operating practices. You need to correctly answer a minimum of 26 of the 35 questions to pass the exam and receive your Technician License. The license is good for a period of 10 years and, if renewed prior to expiration, does not require any re-examination.

The Technician License gives access to all Amateur Radio frequencies above 30 megahertz, allowing these licensees the ability to communicate locally and most often within North America. It also allows for some limited privileges on the HF (also called "short wave") bands used for international communications. Additional information on getting licensed is available at ARRL’s website - http://www.arrl.org/getting-licensed

Please note that all of the exam questions come from a standard pool of 428 questions which are good for a three-year period. At the end of the three-year period a new pool of questions will be established. Be sure to study from the current question pool and take your examination prior to the pool’s expiration. The current TECHNICIAN POOL will be used through 2022, click for more information on the new pool questions.
