The Georgia Death Race

The Georgia Death Race is a point-to-point ultra-marathon in the mountains of North Georgia. The race is seventy-miles with nearly 28,000 feet of elevation change. The event begins at Vogel State Park, heads west and then south to finish at Amicalola Falls State Park.

The race starts at the crack of dawn with over 300 runners. The organizers encourage runners of all speeds to be on top of Duncan Ridge to see the sun rise over the back of Brasstown Bald which is the highest point in Georgia. With the leaves off the trees, the sunrise will light up the surrounding mountains and valleys that make up North Georgia. The first 8 miles has close to 3,500 feet of elevation change, including the 3.8 mile, 2,300 ft. climb up and over the summit of Coosa Bald.
Again this year, the North Georgia Tri-State Amateur Radio Club will provide communications support by both keeping track of runners bib-numbers as they passed through Mulky Gap and will be on hand for any medical or safety issues that might arise.

A special thank you to the club members who find themselves standing in the dark, cold North Georgia Mountains so early in the morning to support the race.
